Saw 3D

So my boyfriend came up for the night to go see the new Saw movie with me.  They are his favorite movies, but he promised he would see it with me, and he didn't want to wait until next time I could come home! We expected the movie to be sold out, since it was opening night; but I guess I over estimated the Muncie movie theater because there were maybe 30 people in the theater; if that.  It was a good movie; a few really good parts, and of course the director is very clever and always ties everything in great.  But I was disappointed with a few scenes that definitely could have been better.  Also, they were playing the movie in 2D without the 3D option here.  I guess you have to drive to Noblesville to see 3D movies around here.
Oh well, I am happy to get to spend the evening with my boyfriend.  I always miss him when we're apart!
Have a good weekend everyone! and Happy Halloween!

Public Writing Proposal

The policy I am interested in is The 2010 General Fund Referendum with Center Grove Community schools. This policy is trying to be voted in place, on November 2nd, to help keep the school systems arts, athletics, academics, and technology programs.  The Center Grove schools were affected majorly by the budget cuts in Indiana, just like most other schools.  What some community members don’t notice is how many adults and children’s lives are affected by these budget cuts.  The cuts coming up next year could cause more teachers to lose their jobs, kids having to pay to participate in athletics like football, tennis, basketball, etc.  Also, their art programs, for example the show choirs, are going to be affected by losing instructors when they are nationally recognized.  These extracurricular activities are important for high school students to stay busy and keep out of trouble.  The school corporation is asking for up to a $12 increase in property taxes a month from the community members to help keep these activities and teachers within the corporation.  I don’t believe that $12 extra a month is unreasonable to keep kids out of trouble after school and giving them something constructive to do.

Public Writing

Public writing is writing that we do for others.  It's writing that we do in the classroom to express our views on something, and then let our peers and professor read.  Public writing is writing that we have done our our websites and this blog that we write on twice a week.  Public writing is something that expresses ourselves, but also is allowing anyone to view this writing and critique or form their own opinion over it.

Fall Break

Well this fall break has been good. except I hate coming and staying at home with my mom because she still treats me like a little kid.  That's why whenever I come home I stay with my boyfriend because it's more fun being with him and his family then here with my mom.  I hate being treated like I'm a little kid, and not like an adult.  I'm 18, and I'm in college. Do you really think that I'm going to have all the freedom at college and then when I come home let her boss me around? Nope. Pretty sure that's not how it's going to work anymore.  I'm seriously about to explode on her, but it's not worth it to me to start a fight.  Yeah, people tell me to just sit down and talk to her about it, but that's not how it works with my mom.  She freaks out about everything, and she's always right.
Ugh, I can't wait to get back to BSU to get away from her. But I'd rather stay down here with my boyfriend and friends.  It's been great hanging out for awihle.

Direct to Consumer Advertising

here is my website for class: http://www.dtcadvertising.weebly.com

Direct to Consumer advertising of pharmaceutical drugs is an argument that is important to me.  I am a marketing major, so advertising is very interesting to me.  The advertisers are tricking consumers into thinking they need a medication when they haven’t been consulted from their physician.  This all started in 1997 when the FDA relaxed their rules on use of broadcast media to advertise prescription drugs to consumers.  This gave way to the advertisers to start making commercials or even printed ads that persuade people they need a certain drug to fix a condition that they may or may not have.  Also, these drugs have side effects that can be worse than what the condition is in the first place.  For example, Zoloft is used as an antidepressant, but it has been known to cause children, teenagers, and even adults to become suicidal.  Instead of treating the condition of depression, the prescription drug made the condition even worse, and possibly deadly.  Not all consumers have a condition, but the way these advertisers display the condition on screen makes people believe that they have something.  So at the end of the day, direct to consumer advertising is bad for society. Everyone needs to be aware of this, and something needs to be changed.

Beginning of a Horrible Week!

So this week it seemed like nothing was working out for me. Monday my phone started messing up. So I went to the AT&T store on Tuesday before class to get it fixed.  Then later in the day on Tuesday it started messing up in a different way (turning itself off and on for no reason every few minutes).  Then Wednesday I lost my ID card on my way to take my midterm for Speech. But a girl ended up emailing me and meeting up to give it back to me, so that was better.  Then Thursday morning my phone completely fried and wouldn't even connect to the service at all and it wouldn't turn on when it wasn't on the charger.  Then Thursday afternoon my computer completely crashed from a virus.  So all week, nothing was working out for me. but later on Thursday night I had a sorority thing and we ended up getting our Big Sis's that night! :) so that was exciting! And my roommate let me use her phone to talk to my boyfriend, which I hadn't been able to like all week with my computer and phone being broken.  But yesterday I turned my phone on and it started working again for some weird reason, but I had my mom bring up one of my old phones just in case it started to crash again then I'll have a backup one.  And my boyfriend came up today and completely uninstalled my operating system and reinstalled it so now the virus is gone.  A lot of work, but it ended up being a good weekend to see my dad and stepmom Friday; my mom and sister Saturday; and then my boyfriend stayed last night and will be here until Tuesday night! :)

hope everyone had a good weekend!

Weekend!

So another weekend away from Ball State.  I hate leaving my friends, but it's all worth it when I get to spend time with my boyfriend and his family.  His family is my family, and it makes me so happy.  We've been together for over 14 months now; and it still continues to get better.  He has been really busy lately with Army stuff...the one disadvantage to our relationship! I hate when he has to leave to go on missions and all of that nonsense; but I am still very proud of him.  He is in training to be an officer and wants to make this his career.  So I guess I'll have to get used to this.  But anyways, I went to my first ShowChoir concert this weekend.  My boyfriend's sister is a senior at Center Grove High School.  It was really cool to see; and they did really well! After her show, we went to an apple orchard and then my boyfriend let me pick out a pumpkin! We went home and carved the pumpkin and then roasted the pumpkin seeds. That was a lot of fun! And then the CG football game was at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday night so we went to that as well.  Center Grove won; as usual.  And then Sunday we watched football all day while I studied for my History exam (which I just took, and it was still hard) but oh well. I hope everyone had a good weekend!

Homecoming Week! :)

So homecoming week has been lots of fun; especially since my sorority is participating in all of the events! We were Dodgeball champs on Monday! :) Then we had a jello tug-of-war/wrestling on Tuesday; and then flag football was yesterday! We made it to the championship game; but we ended up losing.  The other team was tackling; so I decided that they won through cheating! but oh well; i still love all my KD girls for working hard and of course the FIJI men for being on the team too! Tonight is AirJam....I am soooo excited! Doors open at 7:45 tonight but the actual airjam doesn't start until 9. So we're meeting at the KD house at 6:30 to get our tickets and then stand outside of Emen's to get good seats! Yeah, we're crazy! lol.  And I'm upset that I'm missing the football game/bed races tomorrow; but I promised my boyfriend's sister that I would come home to see her Show Choir breakfast show on Saturday morning.
I hope everyone had a good homecoming week! and good luck with all of your midterms! have a great weekend! :)

Time Management!

So I'm in a sorority, like I've said a bunch before.  But looking at my calendar every day to make sure I do/don't have something going on that day is so overwhelming! I have a whiteboard calendar hanging up in my room; and i write on it so i don't forget things that are going on; i just changed the month to october and put everything on there that I need; and there are only 6 days out of the whole month that I don't have things going on! It's so stressful! And today, I have to write a 2 page play, plus 1 page worth of character analysis for theater; schedule a time and study for my test this coming week; and work on this website for this class. its just been so stressful with sorority stuff going on all weekend; and not having time to work on homework. and i have to do it all tonight, plus i have chapter tonight for sorority at 7; which takes away another 2 hours or so for that! Ugh! i love my sorority; and I'm not going to leave, its what i want to do. I just need to figure out another way to work on my time management skills and find time for my homework! its the most important thing! :)

Angels In America

So I am taking Theater 100 for my fine arts credit, thinking that it was the only remotely interesting fine arts class offered. And it has actually been pretty cool so far.  My professor is awesome, he is very passionate about the theater; and he is even directing one of the plays that we have to go see in a few weeks.   Along with the class, we have to see 4 plays that were given to us in a list; and there are questions about the plays on our exams/final.  Last night, I went to see Angels in America; knowing it was a 3 hour show, and thinking it was going to bore me to death.  Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed it.  I absolutely hate history, but it was an interesting way at looking at how things were back then, with little twists.  The actors were great, especially after reading the program and knowing that most of them played more than one part.  The costumes were great/hilarious at times. And overall I had a pretty good time seeing the movie, with a few inappropriate parts. lol.  So again, since we're all freshman in our english class (I think), I suggest you go see this play if you have the chance, I believe this is the last weekend it is open. So if you have time, go enjoy.  You get 1 free ticket for being a freshman!
:) have a good weekend everyone!
