Public Writing Proposal

The policy I am interested in is The 2010 General Fund Referendum with Center Grove Community schools. This policy is trying to be voted in place, on November 2nd, to help keep the school systems arts, athletics, academics, and technology programs.  The Center Grove schools were affected majorly by the budget cuts in Indiana, just like most other schools.  What some community members don’t notice is how many adults and children’s lives are affected by these budget cuts.  The cuts coming up next year could cause more teachers to lose their jobs, kids having to pay to participate in athletics like football, tennis, basketball, etc.  Also, their art programs, for example the show choirs, are going to be affected by losing instructors when they are nationally recognized.  These extracurricular activities are important for high school students to stay busy and keep out of trouble.  The school corporation is asking for up to a $12 increase in property taxes a month from the community members to help keep these activities and teachers within the corporation.  I don’t believe that $12 extra a month is unreasonable to keep kids out of trouble after school and giving them something constructive to do.

  1. I agree. I don't know too much about it, but I feel like schools are in a lot of trouble. This year in my town, a whole bunch of schools were closed. Now there are only five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. It's sad. I feel like people would be upset about the increased taxes, but they need to realize that its the children we are talking about. Children are basically the future.
