So English is my last final on Friday morning...I can't wait to get it over with! I just finished packing...and am about to go get my car at the stadium and start packing it up. I guess I'm a little anxious. BUT the best part about my day tomorrow is definitely going to pick up my friend Chris at the airport Friday night at 7. He moved to Texas my sophomore year of high school, and I haven't seen him in 2 years! But he is coming to visit everyone over winter break, so i'm really excited to see him! And then we're having an ugly christmas sweater party friday night with everyone! So that'll be fun. also, I get my first christmas on Sunday when I get home, so i'm excited for that too! but i hope everyone has a wonderful break! and that finals haven't been too bad!!
:) happy holidays!

Finals....
So finals haven't been as stressful as I thought. The one i was most worried about was my history final. We had a study session on Monday night before the test on tuesday morning and the TA for the class ended up giving us 44 out of 50 of the questions for the test!! so that definitely made me happy. I really wanted to get an A on it so that I could keep an A in the class. My professor told us he would have grades up on blackboard by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning..but he has yet to put them up! and I've emailed him and he hasn't emailed me back...so that's definitely annoying. But yeah, I just really want to get home! Like everyone else does I'm sure!
Weekend before Finals
So last weekend was so much fun! I didn't have any finals on Monday so I just hung out with friends all weekend and enjoyed the last time at ball state for awhile. My best friend from back home was supposed to come up, and I haven't seen her in awhile so i was excited, but she ended up not having enough gas to come up so we made plans for winter break. I can't wait to go home and see everyone! :) hope everyone is doing well on their finals!

Last week of classes!
So this is the last week of classes of our 1st semester in college! I'm so excited to get home and see my friends and boyfriend for 3 weeks. this break was much needed, oh and isn't this week supposed to be called "dead" week. because mine has been far from it! Monday and Tuesday I stayed up til 4 AM working on projects, papers, and speeches. Not to mention I stayed in my dorm room on Saturday and Sunday night working on this portfolio. So last night I got done around 2 working on this portfolio. so that was a nice change. but i hope everyone has an amazing break! and a good luck next semester with all of your classes! Spring Break and Summer couldn't come soon enough! :)

Stressful Weekend
So this weekend was fun on Friday like I said, but the rest of the weekend was no fun! Saturday I stayed in all day working on these papers for our portfolio. Then I have an 8-10 page paper still to write for my history book report. Also, I have a speech to give on Tuesday in class that I need to write, and lines to memorize for my play in my theater class that I have to present on Wednesday. So basically everything is due by Wednesday, so after that I will be a lot less stressed this week! And tomorrow night I'm going to the Greek Night at the Pacer game with a bunch of my sisters. so that should be a lot of fun!
:)

KD Formal!
Last night we had our formal dance for Kappa Delta so my boyfriend came up for that! It was so much fun. Almost everyone went, and it was at the Regency so it was a lot of fun! It was cool to see everyone dressed up. I love having a reason to get dressed up and take pictures. After the dance, me and my boyfriend went to Bdubs with one of my sisters and her boyfriend. It took like 20 minutes to get our food, but it wasn't that bad because they have paper football fields on the tables so we just played that while we were waiting. It was hilarious. So my boyfriend left at like 8AM this morning because he had to drive back home and get his bulldog then take her up to Carmel to this vet that specializes in bulldogs so she can have her surgery. She's having her puppies today! :) But he promised to send pictures. So here's one! :)
There are 9 of them! :) they're so cute!! I can't wait to get home and play with them!

Syllabus Assessment
Course Goals ~ Introduces and develops understanding of principles of rhetoric; basic research methods; elements, strategies, and conventions of persuasion used in constructing written and multi-modal texts. Upon completion of English 103 students will:
1. I feel confident about this because I have learned how to use written words and spoken words to persuade someone while sounding intelligent.
2. I feel confident about this because I have learned that when you are trying to persuade people, you need to realize who you audience is and what their values/beliefs are so you know how to approach the topic.
3. I feel confident with this because I had a lot of experience with evaluating other student's papers while also receiving their input on my papers and learning how to revise my paper according to the suggestions given.
4. I feel better about this topic because of the rhetorical analysis paper that we were assigned. We had to find a text or advertisement to analyze and give evidence and facts as to why we felt a certain way about it.
5. I don't think I really understand this because of the way it is worded; but I do understand how to research things and give evidence to back up the points being made.
6. I believe I gained more confidence in this aspect. I usually get shy when I am critiquing someone's paper because I don't want to completely butcher their paper, but intensive reviews gave me practice in just giving suggestions rather than telling the person that their way is wrong.
7. I feel confident about format, syntax, punctuation, and spelling because of the different resources on the web that are out there for you to check when you do have a question, especially with citing sources.
8. I feel better about this because this class forced me to make time to evaluate 6 different pages when it needs to be done in 2 days, rather than procrastinating. Also, the portfolio that is due next week has made me realize that I need to be working on these papers all of the time, not just the night before.
9. I feel confident about this because of the peer reviews and intensive reviews that we did in class. It helped me to give suggestions to people and how to handle constructive criticism about my own papers.
Course Content & Format ~ The content and format of English 103 are designed to enable students to achieve the course goals; specifically, students in English 103 will:
1.I feel more confident about this because of the intensive and peer reviews that we did in class every few weeks.
2. This aspect was covered very thoroughly with the multimodal assignment we had, wihch helped a lot. The persuasive logics were expressed in each student's website in different ways.
3. Again, I feel confident in this because this was a huge part of the intensive and peer reviews in class.
4. I feel this was convered greatly because of the different drafts that each student had to submit in order for the peer reviews, intensive reviews, and eventually our portfolios next week. Each time these are done there are more corrections/suggestions that are given for each of the four papers.
5. I feel better about this because of the rhetorical analysis and the public writing paper that we were assigned. It helped us to designate an audience, and discuss our point in an intelligent way by using facts, research, and ethos, pathos, logos to give a strong argument.
6. I feel better about this because of the intensive review assignments that we had to read other student's papers and understand what they were saying so that we could give feedback.
7. I feel this was accomplished greatly by the four different papers that were written. We had to do research for 3 out of the 4 of them, and also some secondary research to make sure that the facts and arguments were portrayed correctly and intelligently.
University Core Curriculum Goals ~ The central purpose of University Core Curriculum is to enable men and women to live rich and satisfying lives and to undertake the broad responsibilities of citizenship in a free society. Although The University Core Curriculum seeks to discover and nurture individual talents, its primary emphasis is preparation for roles people share as human beings and as members of family and community groups. Thus, students will be able to:
1. I believe this was accomplished because of the knowledge we learned about rhetorical analysis and persuasion. This will apply when we try to make arguments and write papers in our future.
2. This was accomplished by the speed and amount of work that we accomplished, and the ways that we had to communicate through our papers that needed to be at a college level.
3. This was accomplished by the intensive and peer reviews that we held during class. We had to provide feedback to other students about their papers throughout the semester.
4. This was accomplished through the research I conducted for my different papers throughout the semester.
5. This was touched on when we did our multimodal assignments and we had to provide feedback/suggestions to other students during the peer and intensive reviews about their websites that were supposed to be arguments/persuasive websites.

Argument
So as always, my family argues about football. We watched the games on Thanksgiving and my cousins are huge Dallas fans, but my Aunt Judy is a Saints fan because of Drew Brees. So of course, they argued about who was going to win, why their team is better. And so my cousins bring in the logos of how Dallas has always been a good team, they always play on Thanksgiving, and just that they're a better team. So my aunt argues back with the superbowl champs for the Saints comeback. Little did they know, pathos was a big part of their argument because they were using their emotional attachment to the team to argue back and forth of why they're better. If their emotions weren't tied into the team then they wouldn't be cheering for them anyways.
Basically my family is crazy about football; always has been. So the arguments will continue.

Black Friday!
So Thanksgiving was great! I had forgotten how good food could actually be when my mom makes it! :) haha. and then after Thanksgiving with my family I went to my boyfriend's house and hung out with his family and played cards while we planned our Black Friday events. (Yes I'm one of the crazy people that stand in line for hours and fight for things!) Me and my boyfriend's plan was to go to Target and get 2 tvs for his parents. We got in line at 1:30 and they didn't open until 4. We were there 2 1/2 hours early and there was still about 100 people in front of us. We were talking to people and they said they had been there since 10 pm Thursday night! and they all brought tents and everything! it was crazy!
I hope everyone had a great break! :) and lets get these finals over with!

Weekend!
So International Girls Day went really well! We had a lot of fun hanging out with the girls; and some of our sisters got on stage and talked about their majors and the struggles they went through to get there. Then we went over advertisements in the media and how they don't show "real" women. So that was pretty cool to be able to talk to little girls and help boost up their confidence. After that on Friday night I drove home because I had a wedding to go to with my boyfriend on Saturday. So Saturday during the day I played COD: Black Ops with my boyfriend all day long; it was so much fun! I've always wanted to be better at it and I felt like I was getting better after the weekend. Well I'm going home tomorrow after my classes; and I am so excited! So I hope everyone has a great week! :)

International Girls Day!
So Kappa Delta is the only sorority on campus to have international holidays. They actually just became international in the past year; so it means a lot to us! We have International Women's Friendship Month; to celebrate confidence in women around the world. and we also have International Girl's Day. The Girl Scouts of the USA are one of our philanthropies so tonight we are celebrating International Girl's Day with over 75 girl scout troops in the art museum! I am SOOO excited! It is going to be so much fun! We are having the event from 5:30-8 tonight and we are doing crafts and each girl is dressing up as what they want to be when they get older; including us sisters. I am so excited to be able to help give these young girls confidence that they can instill in themselves when they're young so that it is easier for them as they grow to adults.
Hope everyone has a good weekend! I'm so excited for break! :)

Frozen.
I'm taking Theater 100 for my fine arts credit; and as a part of that class we have to see 4 of the theater productions done this semester. Sunday afternoon I saw Frozen with my boyfriend (he came up for the weekend). and I was really disappointed in the story line. The acting was phenomenal, and even kinda scary how good it was because it was about a serial killer. The play was mostly a bunch of monologues put together rather than having interactions between the characters. Most of the time I just felt like the actors were speaking to the audience rather than between themselves. So all in all, I was kinda disappointed that the one play I brought my boyfriend with me was kind of a let down; because the other 3 plays I saw this semester were really good (Angels in America, Almost Maine, and Company).
Hope everyone had a good weekend! :)

Twister Tournament!
So tonight Kappa Delta had our annual Twister Tournament. We have it every year as one of our philanthropy events to raise money for the American Brain Tumor Association. One of our sisters, Lindsey Arnold, died in 2004 from a brain tumor; so we have done it ever since. This year it was "pajama theme" so everyone was wearing their cute and crazy pajamas. We even had a team of guys dress as the "bananas in pajamas". I don't know about anyone else; but i LOVED that show when I was younger. but anyways, we had an amazing turn out this year! and it was fun to organize and hold the event with my sisters! Thanks to everyone who showed up and donated! :)

Harry Potter (2 movies or 1?)
Everyone knows the first of the last 2 movies of the Harry Potter series premieres on Friday November 19. The production company made the decision to split the movie up into 2 separate movies. What is your opinion on this? Personally, I think that it was a great idea to make it into 2 movies because to be able to have all of the detail of the movie they can cut it up into 2 rather than it being a 5 hour long movie, which no one wants to sit through! :) I cannot wait to see the new movie once it comes out! Is anyone else going at midnight on Thursday to see it? Tickets have been sold out for weeks already! I'm soo excited!
Here is the trailer for the movie! check it out! and leave comments on your opinions!

Show Choir concert
So after my initiation on Saturday morning I drove to Ft Wayne for my boyfriend's sister's show choir concert. She attends Center Grove high school and she is a member of their Debtones choir. They're entire show choir is phenomenal and so it was good to actually see one of her shows for the first time. I went to her "breakfast show" a few weeks ago; but that is kinda of just a practice and it isn't a full show. It was really cool to see the other schools as well and see a full blown competition. But I was so tired of the night before (i only got 1.5 hours of sleep) that I was afraid i was going to fall asleep during the competition. I got there at like 2:00; but the concert had started at like 9 that morning. and we didn't leave until about 10 that night. and it still wasn't over yet! So I made my boyfriend drive my car back down to Greenwood to his house so that I could take a nap on the way home. And then Sunday I went to his grandma's house for their family dinner they have once a month; and we did a Christmas drawing for their family Christmas that they have. Then I had to get back up to Muncie by 7 for my chapter for Kappa Delta; and it was the first one that I actually got to stay during ritual and see what it was since I'm an official sister now! yay! :)
Hope everyone had a good weekend! (sorry this is so late!)

Kappa Delta!
So last Tuesday I had my test for Kappa Delta. We had to memorize a million things (no joke) and had to take a test over all of it. We had to memorize paragraphs and everything had to be spelled correctly, punctuation had to be exact; and I was so nervous! We had to get at least a 90% on the test to be able to be initiated. After hours of studying, I ended up getting a 73/73 on the test; which was really exciting! Then Friday we had our 2nd degree ritual and then our purity night afterwards. Purity Night consisted of our pledge class staying the night at the KD house and just hanging out and having fun. I loved it; and there are 30 of us in our pledge class so it was nice to actually spend time and be able to get to know everyone a lot better. And the best thing of the weekend:: I GOT INITIATED ON SATURDAY MORNING! :) it was so exciting, so now I'm officially a Kappa Delta Sister. And now I'm excited to begin my journey as a Kappa Delta.

Saw 3D
So my boyfriend came up for the night to go see the new Saw movie with me. They are his favorite movies, but he promised he would see it with me, and he didn't want to wait until next time I could come home! We expected the movie to be sold out, since it was opening night; but I guess I over estimated the Muncie movie theater because there were maybe 30 people in the theater; if that. It was a good movie; a few really good parts, and of course the director is very clever and always ties everything in great. But I was disappointed with a few scenes that definitely could have been better. Also, they were playing the movie in 2D without the 3D option here. I guess you have to drive to Noblesville to see 3D movies around here.
Oh well, I am happy to get to spend the evening with my boyfriend. I always miss him when we're apart!
Have a good weekend everyone! and Happy Halloween!

Public Writing Proposal
The policy I am interested in is The 2010 General Fund Referendum with Center Grove Community schools. This policy is trying to be voted in place, on November 2nd, to help keep the school systems arts, athletics, academics, and technology programs. The Center Grove schools were affected majorly by the budget cuts in Indiana, just like most other schools. What some community members don’t notice is how many adults and children’s lives are affected by these budget cuts. The cuts coming up next year could cause more teachers to lose their jobs, kids having to pay to participate in athletics like football, tennis, basketball, etc. Also, their art programs, for example the show choirs, are going to be affected by losing instructors when they are nationally recognized. These extracurricular activities are important for high school students to stay busy and keep out of trouble. The school corporation is asking for up to a $12 increase in property taxes a month from the community members to help keep these activities and teachers within the corporation. I don’t believe that $12 extra a month is unreasonable to keep kids out of trouble after school and giving them something constructive to do.

Public Writing
Public writing is writing that we do for others. It's writing that we do in the classroom to express our views on something, and then let our peers and professor read. Public writing is writing that we have done our our websites and this blog that we write on twice a week. Public writing is something that expresses ourselves, but also is allowing anyone to view this writing and critique or form their own opinion over it.
Fall Break
Well this fall break has been good. except I hate coming and staying at home with my mom because she still treats me like a little kid. That's why whenever I come home I stay with my boyfriend because it's more fun being with him and his family then here with my mom. I hate being treated like I'm a little kid, and not like an adult. I'm 18, and I'm in college. Do you really think that I'm going to have all the freedom at college and then when I come home let her boss me around? Nope. Pretty sure that's not how it's going to work anymore. I'm seriously about to explode on her, but it's not worth it to me to start a fight. Yeah, people tell me to just sit down and talk to her about it, but that's not how it works with my mom. She freaks out about everything, and she's always right.
Ugh, I can't wait to get back to BSU to get away from her. But I'd rather stay down here with my boyfriend and friends. It's been great hanging out for awihle.

Direct to Consumer Advertising
here is my website for class: http://www.dtcadvertising.weebly.com
Direct to Consumer advertising of pharmaceutical drugs is an argument that is important to me. I am a marketing major, so advertising is very interesting to me. The advertisers are tricking consumers into thinking they need a medication when they haven’t been consulted from their physician. This all started in 1997 when the FDA relaxed their rules on use of broadcast media to advertise prescription drugs to consumers. This gave way to the advertisers to start making commercials or even printed ads that persuade people they need a certain drug to fix a condition that they may or may not have. Also, these drugs have side effects that can be worse than what the condition is in the first place. For example, Zoloft is used as an antidepressant, but it has been known to cause children, teenagers, and even adults to become suicidal. Instead of treating the condition of depression, the prescription drug made the condition even worse, and possibly deadly. Not all consumers have a condition, but the way these advertisers display the condition on screen makes people believe that they have something. So at the end of the day, direct to consumer advertising is bad for society. Everyone needs to be aware of this, and something needs to be changed.
Beginning of a Horrible Week!
So this week it seemed like nothing was working out for me. Monday my phone started messing up. So I went to the AT&T store on Tuesday before class to get it fixed. Then later in the day on Tuesday it started messing up in a different way (turning itself off and on for no reason every few minutes). Then Wednesday I lost my ID card on my way to take my midterm for Speech. But a girl ended up emailing me and meeting up to give it back to me, so that was better. Then Thursday morning my phone completely fried and wouldn't even connect to the service at all and it wouldn't turn on when it wasn't on the charger. Then Thursday afternoon my computer completely crashed from a virus. So all week, nothing was working out for me. but later on Thursday night I had a sorority thing and we ended up getting our Big Sis's that night! :) so that was exciting! And my roommate let me use her phone to talk to my boyfriend, which I hadn't been able to like all week with my computer and phone being broken. But yesterday I turned my phone on and it started working again for some weird reason, but I had my mom bring up one of my old phones just in case it started to crash again then I'll have a backup one. And my boyfriend came up today and completely uninstalled my operating system and reinstalled it so now the virus is gone. A lot of work, but it ended up being a good weekend to see my dad and stepmom Friday; my mom and sister Saturday; and then my boyfriend stayed last night and will be here until Tuesday night! :)
hope everyone had a good weekend!

Weekend!
So another weekend away from Ball State. I hate leaving my friends, but it's all worth it when I get to spend time with my boyfriend and his family. His family is my family, and it makes me so happy. We've been together for over 14 months now; and it still continues to get better. He has been really busy lately with Army stuff...the one disadvantage to our relationship! I hate when he has to leave to go on missions and all of that nonsense; but I am still very proud of him. He is in training to be an officer and wants to make this his career. So I guess I'll have to get used to this. But anyways, I went to my first ShowChoir concert this weekend. My boyfriend's sister is a senior at Center Grove High School. It was really cool to see; and they did really well! After her show, we went to an apple orchard and then my boyfriend let me pick out a pumpkin! We went home and carved the pumpkin and then roasted the pumpkin seeds. That was a lot of fun! And then the CG football game was at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday night so we went to that as well. Center Grove won; as usual. And then Sunday we watched football all day while I studied for my History exam (which I just took, and it was still hard) but oh well. I hope everyone had a good weekend!

Homecoming Week! :)
So homecoming week has been lots of fun; especially since my sorority is participating in all of the events! We were Dodgeball champs on Monday! :) Then we had a jello tug-of-war/wrestling on Tuesday; and then flag football was yesterday! We made it to the championship game; but we ended up losing. The other team was tackling; so I decided that they won through cheating! but oh well; i still love all my KD girls for working hard and of course the FIJI men for being on the team too! Tonight is AirJam....I am soooo excited! Doors open at 7:45 tonight but the actual airjam doesn't start until 9. So we're meeting at the KD house at 6:30 to get our tickets and then stand outside of Emen's to get good seats! Yeah, we're crazy! lol. And I'm upset that I'm missing the football game/bed races tomorrow; but I promised my boyfriend's sister that I would come home to see her Show Choir breakfast show on Saturday morning.
I hope everyone had a good homecoming week! and good luck with all of your midterms! have a great weekend! :)

Time Management!
So I'm in a sorority, like I've said a bunch before. But looking at my calendar every day to make sure I do/don't have something going on that day is so overwhelming! I have a whiteboard calendar hanging up in my room; and i write on it so i don't forget things that are going on; i just changed the month to october and put everything on there that I need; and there are only 6 days out of the whole month that I don't have things going on! It's so stressful! And today, I have to write a 2 page play, plus 1 page worth of character analysis for theater; schedule a time and study for my test this coming week; and work on this website for this class. its just been so stressful with sorority stuff going on all weekend; and not having time to work on homework. and i have to do it all tonight, plus i have chapter tonight for sorority at 7; which takes away another 2 hours or so for that! Ugh! i love my sorority; and I'm not going to leave, its what i want to do. I just need to figure out another way to work on my time management skills and find time for my homework! its the most important thing! :)

Angels In America
So I am taking Theater 100 for my fine arts credit, thinking that it was the only remotely interesting fine arts class offered. And it has actually been pretty cool so far. My professor is awesome, he is very passionate about the theater; and he is even directing one of the plays that we have to go see in a few weeks. Along with the class, we have to see 4 plays that were given to us in a list; and there are questions about the plays on our exams/final. Last night, I went to see Angels in America; knowing it was a 3 hour show, and thinking it was going to bore me to death. Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed it. I absolutely hate history, but it was an interesting way at looking at how things were back then, with little twists. The actors were great, especially after reading the program and knowing that most of them played more than one part. The costumes were great/hilarious at times. And overall I had a pretty good time seeing the movie, with a few inappropriate parts. lol. So again, since we're all freshman in our english class (I think), I suggest you go see this play if you have the chance, I believe this is the last weekend it is open. So if you have time, go enjoy. You get 1 free ticket for being a freshman!
:) have a good weekend everyone!

Football!
So football this weekend was amazing for me. I went home this weekend, so Friday I went to my boyfriend's sister's high school football game, it was their homecoming (Center Grove) so it was cool to see all of the floats in the parade, they actually did a good job. They ended up winning their game by a lot. Then Sunday all of my teams won! COLTS, VIKINGS, and TITANS! :) yeah, my boyfriend gets mad at me that I am a Tennessee fan, but I love my Vince Young...I have since he played at Texas! So I was excited to see all of that happen.
So besides watching football all weekend, which I love!, me and my boyfriend both had a lot of homework to work on, so I tried to get some of that done. I have an idea for my play I have to write in Theater 100 I think, and tonight I have to put together my ideas that I've been collecting for my informative speech about Taylor Swift! :) Oh, and on Sunday I took a quiz for Theater on InQsit about a play we read called The Nerd, and I got a 100% so that was exciting!
But I'm off to go to dinner with some girls from my sorority. I will see you all in class tomorrow! have a good night!

Homework, Homework, and more Homework
So this week has been crazy busy....I feel like all I've done is do homework, and go to sorority stuff. I was super nervous for my first test on Monday in my History 150 class....but we got it back on Wednesday and I got a 96% so that was exciting! :) Then I've been writing my paper for english, finding a topic for an informative speech, typing up a survey for my speech and starting the outline....reading a play for theater....trying to start writing a play for theater (thats a joke!) and now I found out that I have to go for my speech on Tuesday, I'm one of the first people, and I haven't even started writing it yet. Anyways, I'm going home this weekend, and there's a bunch of things planned for that. So that will be fun. Especially added on with all of my extra homework for this week coming up. Oh well.
Funny Story of the day-- I had a ticket to go to the Angels of America play tonight (i have to go for my theater class) It started at 7:30, so i started walking about 7:15 to get there....I get all the way to Emen's auditorium, the doors are locked. I realize that it is in a different place and I had no where to go! and by this time it was 7:28 so I just gave up and didn't go. But now I have to get a ticket for next week and find time to go again! ugh! :(
Everyone have a great weekend!!

My Weekend!
So this weekend my boyfriend came up to visit, again! I absolutely hate being away from him, so we've tried to set up a schedule of him coming up, or me coming down every weekend. but it's going to start being hard with all of my sorority stuff keeping me busy. My roommate's birthday was Saturday (yesterday), so my boyfriend and I bought her a cake and balloons on friday night, and then surprised her saturday morning with them! then i planned a surprise dinner with a bunch of our friends at Ruby Tuesdays (she thought it was just me and him taking her out) and when we got there they were all sititng at the table and she was so excited! So that was awesome. Then my boyfriend left today, which sucked. But I think I'm going to go home next weekend because I have errands to run anyways. Oh yeah, so my first Informal Chapter for Kappa Delta is tonight. I'm pretty excited to figure out what it is all about. And we're going to order Air Jam tickets and our Homecoming tshirts. So that'll be awesome. Then at 8:30 I have a study session for my History 150 exam on Monday morning....i'm so nervous! I am awful at history, and I can't understand my professor anyways. This is my first real exam since I've been here on campus, so I am extra nervous for that too. Then I have quizzes, papers, and speech stuff due all this week, it'll be a VERY busy week for me. But oh well, I have to get ready! hope everyone had a good weekend! :)

First Week as a KD baby!
So after the Bid Day party on Monday (we got new shirts, bags, car decals, and other good stuff) we had to wear our Bid Day shirts on campus for Tuesday....they said that usually you'll get the older girls yelling at you from across the street or whatever, but lucky me, I ran into no one on Tuesday so I had no one yelling at me. However, I was eating by myself on Tuesday in the Atrium before my last class, and I had another KD baby come sit with me! Her name is Kate, and it was so nice to get to know her! and then after awhile an older KD came and sat with us! So that was fun, I went from eating lunch alone to having 2 of my sisters with me! So that was definitely a cool experience. Then Tuesday night we had our First Degree experience as a KD, which was also known as a "pinning". We signed our pledge to the sorority, and did some other fun stuff! I'm already excited about this whole sorority thing, and I am really glad I decided to join. My sisters are all amazing!! :)
Oh, and we already have gotten the news about our first Informal Dance on October 2nd, we find out the theme later, but I am sooooo excited about that! :)

KAPPA DELTA! :)
So since Thursday my days have been long, crazy, exhausting, but absolutely amazing! I have been going through sorority recruitment, crazy I know! I never thought I would be in a sorority, and if you asked me while I was in high school, I thought it was the stupidest thing ever. But since I've been here at Ball State, I've never been happier. Kappa Delta is my new home, my new life, and my new family! I love all of the girls to death! And Bid Day today was more than I could ever ask for! Tomorrow is our first ritual, and I am going shopping after classes with my beautiful white rose, Chelsea! I absolutely love her to death! She is phenomenal. This sorority thing just gets better every day.
And my family is excited for me, which is amazing. My mom was surprised when I told her that I was rushing, but now she is happy for me. My sister is Greek so she was the one that talked me into rushing, and I am so glad that I listened to her. She has already sent me a package in the mail today, she called to tell me! :)
I cannot wait to get my new life started with all of my new sisters! :)

Going Home....
So this is college, the whole point is to learn to live on your own, right? So why do so many people go home every weekend? I expected the weekends to be just as busy with people, always doing fun things, and meeting new friends. Most of my friends have gone home every weekend since we have been here. What is the point of going to college if you're just going to run home every weekend? That is not growing up to me. I'm only 1.5 hours away from my hometown, my boyfriend, and some of my really good friends. Yes, don't get me wrong, I would love to go home and spend time with them a lot, but I believe that college is learning to live without those things, and finding out more about yourself. I've been going through Greek recruitment these past 2 nights, and the next 3 to come, and I have absolutely loved it so far. I want to form a relationship with girls that will always be there for me, instead of girls that want to go home to their old lives every weekend. My roommate is from Michigan, so she doesn't have the option of going home every weekend, and I think it has helped her to have more fun here on campus. I went home two weeks ago, but it wasn't just because I missed home, which I did, it was to go to a concert that I have had planned since the beginning of summer. I'm not saying that I'm never going to come home, I can't be away from my boyfriend that long! But I'm just saying that I don't understand why girls/guys want to go home every single weekend? It's a waste of gas if not anything else!

Labor Day weekend!
Since I went home last weekend, my boyfriend came up to visit this weekend. He got up here about 2:30 on Friday and he took me to pick up my car from the fairgrounds, and then we dropped my car back off at the stadium. Since he can't park anywhere until 5, we decided to go to the Muncie mall and check it out. I ended up buying a couple things, and other than that we just shopped around and wasted time. A few of my friends were leaving to go home, so we met up with them and had dinner at the Atrium before they left. Then a few of my guy friends from high school that go to BSU, came up to my room and hung out with me and my boyfriend because they wanted to see him. Saturday, we woke up early and went to breakfast with my guy friends again before they left to go home. Then my boyfriend drove me to Walmart to pick up some stuff (I spent $50!) and we came back here and walked around campus. It was so weird walking around campus and realizing how deserted it was. You could tell it was a holiday weekend and that everyone had gone home. Well my roommate, my boyfriend, and I all wanted to go to dinner, but we realized after we walked to every place that they all closed at 7:30 so we were too late. The nasty store in the bottom of Lafollette was open until 8, so we picked up some snacks there and just came back to our room and ate. Sunday, my boyfriend and I drove to downtown Indy to go to the Rib Fest and watch a band that my mom manages in her spare time. It was really fun! Overall, my weekend was great! It was good to spend time with my boyfriend, especially when it is hard to have him gone all of the time. I hope everyone else had a great holiday weekend! Now I am off to do more homework....ugh!

Football Game!
So Thursday night me and 3 of my new girl friends went to the first BSU football game! I had class until 3:50 and tailgating started at 4, so after class I went to get ready with my awesome roommate and then we met with the other girls! The game was actually really fun, the guys played really well! and we met a few new people so that was good. After the game we went to one of our dorms and watched a movie and tried to learn how to jerk and do the dougie! haha! :)
So this week in English we had an assignment to write a This I Believe essay....I had trouble at first trying to find a topic that I felt strongly enough about to write 4 pages. After a while of brainstorming and deciding if I wanted to share the topic with everyone, I picked a topic that was really close to my heart, domestic violence awareness. It means a lot to me and I believe that it is important to be aware of the signs and cautions of domestic violence.
This week has been busy with homework and activities so it was hard to get used to. But the whole point of college is learning to have good time management skills, which is something I definitely need to work on. I've had a huge study guide for history to work on, and we're getting another one next week, along with English and Business documents to type up. Also, we got our first speech assignment in speech class. We have to do a demonstrative speech, so I decided to do it on the Webfood that we have here on campus, where we can order food in advance on the internet and have it ready for pick up when you don't have enough time to stand in the ridiculous long lines during lunch/dinner time. It is actually a pretty cool feature that I've used a few times.
Well I'm watching Tommy Boy right now! The best movie in the world, so I'm going to get back to that and laundry and dishes....busy night tonight! And tomorrow I'm going to Rib Fest downtown!

First Week of College!
So this first week at Ball State has actually been fun. There are things that are better than I expected, and things that aren't at all what I expected, which I assume has happened to everybody. Luckily I passed the first step of college move in day, my roommate is awesome! I met her on the Ball State Class of 2014 facebook group, and we talked my entire senior year of high school. After a few months of talking and getting to know each other, we decided to be roommates. She came from Michigan, so it has been fun trying to explain the Hoosier way of things, and it has been interesting figuring out the different things that she did in school. We went to the Welcome Week activities, and some of them were actually fun. We met some girls already that we've been spending a lot of time with, which is exciting. I was really nervous before I came up here because I figured since none of my friends from high school were coming, that it would be boring and horrible. In reality, it has been amazing coming up here and making new friends, drama free! The college experience has seemed great so far. The hardest part about being here is being away from my boyfriend. We've been together for over a year, but he is in the army and he just got back at the end of May. I got to spend the summer with him, and then now I had to move up here for school. So it's hard not getting to see him much, especially with the job that he has, but again, it is all a part of growing up. In a way, it is helping me to live without him for the future deployments that he will partake in. So far, I love college life.
My college classes are a different story. lol. :) My professors all seem pretty cool, but taking 16 credit hours might have been too much to start out with, I guess I'll see what happens. This semester I am mostly just taking general study courses, but my major at the moment is Marketing. I have a huge interest in advertising, media, and things of that sort. I would love to have a job like my sister. She works for Optimedia downtown and is in charge of advertising with Dairy Queen. She seem to love her job, and it definitely keeps her busy. So I have been really considering a minor in Telecommunications. Anyways, so far my two favorite professors are Professor McArdle, for English 103, and Professor Daehn, for Theater 100. They both seem to make the class interesting and fun. They make jokes throughout the class to keep your attention, and they really seem to love what they're teaching. The best part of college is that the professors talk to you like you're an adult, they don't treat you like a child with no respect. I look forward to the challenges of homework and studying. I've never been a big person on studying, actually I've never studied for anything in my life, but I know that I will have to study in college, it is a completely different level of education.
Well I have to take a quiz for Theater now, then I am heading to bed. Goodnight. :)

Log for English 103 section 43 :)
Tuesday 8/24/10:
It was our first day of class. Professor McArdle introduced himself and then told us to go around the room and introduce ourselves, and say our favorite book and movie. Professor McArdle made his approval/disapproval of our favorite book and movie. Especially after hurting my feelings for saying he hates Twilight! :( ....maybe it is just a girl thing. Anyways, after we introduced ourselves Professor McArdle passed out a syllabus, and we went over class rules and expectations. After letting out his anger about there being no projector screen, Professor McArdle signed into blackboard and helped us learn to navigate around the site. Also, he showed us the class blog website and explained our assignments with the blogs.
Thursday 8/26/10:
We walked into class and all of the desks were rearranged, then Professor McArdle quizzed himself by trying to remember our names. After that we went over BallPoint and more criteria for the upcoming semester....(zZzz) But we got through that, continued on to kids asking questions. Some students asked how to set up a blog, so we went through the process of getting a Gmail account and making a profile for each students blog. Then someone asked a question about what the exact assignment was each week, so we have to do 2 posts and 2 comments every week. After the clarification of the assignment, our first week of English 103 was over! Now for week 2....what will we do?! Looks like starting our "This I Believe" essays.
